Match Preview

  • Manchester City picked up their 24th competitive clean sheet of the season during midweek – a number unparalleled across Europe’s top five leagues ahead of this weekend – and look in great shape to increase their ten-point lead atop the Premier League (PL) table by extending a 17-game unbeaten top-flight run (W15, D2). The division’s best defence has now conceded an average of just 0.6 goals per game this term, being breached just three times before the 30th minute.
  • Formidable opponents at the Etihad, City haven’t conceded here in six league matches (W6) or lost a home league game since late September (W9, D2). Meanwhile, no team can better City’s average of 7.75 corners per PL home match, and no side has won both halves more times at home (33.33%).
  • Now they welcome the season’s surprise package in West Ham United, who start the round in fourth place following a four-match unbeaten league run (W3, D1). In fact, only City can boast a better ten-game record than theirs (W7, D2, L1) and their fighting qualities have been to the fore as they’ve won a PL-high nine league games via a one-goal margin.
  • Although the ‘Hammers’ are unbeaten in five PL away games (W3, D2), they’ve lost their last four league visits here, although never by more than a two-goal margin. More encouragingly, only Manchester United have rescued more away league points after conceding first this term than their seven.
  • Players to watch: City’s fit-again Sergio Agüero will relish the chance to add to his eight previous league goals against West Ham, for whom Jesse Lingard has made a huge impact since signing on loan in January, netting three PL goals in four appearances, each coming after HT.
  • Hot stat: Having just snapped a 16-match winless run against José Mourinho, David Moyes now bids to end a similar record against another managerial giant in Pep Guardiola (D2, L6).
