Arminia Bielefeld – Hoffenheim Match Preview

  • Arminia Bielefeld face mid-table Hoffenheim as they desperately battle for survival after failing to score for the fourth time across their last seven Bundesliga matches following their goalless draw last time out. More positively though, with four clean sheets in that period as well as six 0-0 HT results, solid defending has kept them in contention to stay up. On top of that, the nine points collected from their last six league outings (W2, D3, L1) is their second best six-game period this campaign.
  • Encouragingly, Bielefeld have accumulated a W6, L2 Bundesliga home record against clubs placed ninth or lower at the beginning of the round. Seven of those eight games saw the winning side maintain a clean sheet, and a further five ended in a 1-0 result.
  • Hoffenheim earned their first clean sheet of the Bundesliga season in the reverse H2H – their 16th game of the campaign – and have followed it up with another five in the most recent 16 (31.25% clean sheet rate). With the starting match favourite winning just two of their last 11 competitive games (D4, L5), a shock result on this occasion would be anything but.
  • The visitors, however, are winless in seven Bundesliga trips (D4, L3), whilst four of their last five road games have also produced two or fewer total goals. Their recent 1-1 draw at Freiburg ended a run of eight consecutive away league outings for Hoffenheim in which the HT and FT results were identical.
  • Players to watch: With his matchwinner against Schalke, Fabian Klos has now opened the scoring in two of Bielefeld’s last three Bundesliga home victories. Hoffenheim’s Andrej Kramarić is the Bundesliga’s only player to score first for his team in each of the last three rounds – if he scores again (currently 18) he’d break the club record for most goals in a top-flight campaign.
  • Hot stat: Just one of Bielefeld’s last 12 matches have seen an equaliser scored by any team.
