  • As we enter the final stretch of this Premier League (PL) season, a strong end to the campaign could see mid-table occupants Brighton make club history, as Graham Potter’s side could eclipse their highest ever English Football League finish of 13th which came in the old First Division back in 1981/82. Impressive away victories over Arsenal and Tottenham helped make that goal a reality, but Brighton return home on the back of a 3-0 humbling against league-leaders Manchester City last time out.
  • The Amex hasn’t been a happy nesting ground for the ‘Seagulls’ though after winning just one of their last 13 home matches (D6, L6), while the PL’s lowest home scorers also haven’t netted in their last five home league matches (D1, L4). Hosting Southampton could prove yet another hurdle to clear, as the home side on the day has failed to win all nine PL H2H matches between these two.
  • As for Southampton, closing out the season with a good run of results could see them secure a top-half PL finish for the first time since 2016/17, although a 2-0 defeat to relegation threatened Burnley last time out certainly didn’t help their cause. That loss makes it just one win in their last seven PL fixtures for Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side (D1, L5), with five of those fixtures seeing the same half-time/full-time result.
  • On their travels, Southampton have produced a mixed-bag of results recently with none of their last eight PL away matches replicating the result prior (W2, D3, L3). Yet the ‘Saints’ seem to go marching on when hitting the road on a Sunday of late, with four wins across their last five PL away games played on a Sunday (L1).
  • Players to watch: Brighton’s Neal Maupay scored a 98th minute equaliser in the reverse fixture, with six of his eight PL goals this season serving as his side’s opener. Meanwhile, Southampton skipper James Ward-Prowse has scored six of his seven PL goals away from home this season.
  • Hot stat: Only nine of Brighton’s 33 PL matches this season have produced over 2.5 goals, a league-low.
